Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2013

Planning out the selection of items for my store has been a very complex process. Originally I wanted to launch KMK for shopping by the summer because I just about love every sheer, flowy, colorful piece that can only be worn in the summertime. However, deciding on the aesthetic of the collection, where to source, what pieces to offer, what items probably won’t be popular just because I like them – has all been such a fun learning process.

I’ve been interested in fashion from a young age. Made apparent in some of my grade school photos, I was not always on-point when it came to personal style. But, I was always interested and trying to express myself through what I wore. I believe that is an essential concept in styling. It takes a lot of practice to master your aesthetic – a lot of shopping, experimenting, researching. But eventually, we all can become naturals at throwing together a great/expressive look. The key in my observation is to avoid becoming frustrated and disillusioned with it all. Because truly,

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak” (as Rachel Zoe famously said).

After making an executive decision to not rush the launch of both the store and the blog, I have delayed opening. Therefore, I have been focusing a lot on the pre-fall, fall and couture fall 2013 collections on the runway this past week. So many favorites from the fall 2013 couture collections, but the ready-to-wear fall 2013 collections have been providing the real inspiration for my shop. Seeing these runway shows gives some insight into what the world’s greatest designers are predicting will be major trends in the coming months (and typically they set the stage for what will make it big each season). I think that some of the fashion trends from summer 2013 will likely also carry over into the next season as they are finally making waves in the mass market. Plus, how could the leather accents trend die come fall? Leather is basically constructed to be worn in the fall/winter seasons & clearly we’re all still obsessed with the edgy-glam looks of the moment.

One of my favorite collections for fall 2013 so far is Rebecca Minkoff. She incorporates a lot of current trends without detracting from her feminine aesthetic. I’m loving the pieces below because while some can be worn entirely as statement separates, she makes it so easy to mix & match throughout her line.
