The Maxi Dress used to be one of the most intimidating trends to me. I always found myself picking one up at a store and just staring at it wondering, “Where in the world would I have to wear a floor-length but casual dress?!”
I don’t know if I’ve become more adventurous or just a bit more creative, but I definitely understand how a piece like this can be a valuable addition to any girl’s wardrobe. You can wear it on a nice dinner date, out for drinks with girlfriends on a summer night, and now I’m starting to think, “What a great transition piece from summer to fall!”
This gorgeous Felicity Rainbow Ikat Maxi Dress from Calypso St. Barth is the perfect example of a maxi that works well for fall and summer. The colorful ikat pattern stands alone as a bold statement dress perfect for a hot summer event. But pair this with a denim jacket or a cropped chunky knit sweater, and you have a glam outfit for one of those cool nights as move towards the end of August and early September.
I love this because clearly it works well with a simple flat sandal. But imagine styling the dress with a pair of open heels with a slightly chunky heel – that definitely reads more fall in my book. I’m not talking thick scarf & leggings weather – but definitely great for those early transitional days.
What do you think? Is it worth it to invest in a maxi dress like this if you’re able to style it for cooler temps as well?
