They’re back! Birkenstock sandals are making the rounds this summer in a big way – although I’m not sure they ever really went out of style. I love the look of these easy slip-on’s. They instantly remind me of my first ever pair my mom gave my sister when we were still little girls in grade school! This is a compilation post of outfits by style bloggers who rock this trend so well and a couple of guidelines I think help when trying to style this trend.

Tip 1 –
- Go skinny or go loose. Commit to either super skinny cigarette style pants or a pair of loose boyfriend jeans. These sandals seem to look really chic in both extremes but make your feet look extra wide if paired with flared jeans (as was popular back in the day!).
Tip 2 –
- Monochrome. The all black look (black leather jacket, loose fitting black trousers, and black Birkenstocks) looks entirely edgy and chic. Same goes for an all white ensemble. Nothing says style quite like the sophistication of a cohesive monochrome palette.
Tip 3 –
- Layer. If pairing Birkenstocks with shorts or a flouncy skirt this summer, the look seems to be really completed when layered with another accessory. Sometimes less is more, but these easy flats look much more put together with a simple thin cardigan or fedora. The devil is in the details as they say! And this tip should transition the shoes well into fall also.
Tip 4 –
- Mix it up. I’m OBSESSED with these rose-gold double buckle sandals. However if something like this is out of your budget, you can still put a twist on the “typical” Birkenstock look with a new color or cut. TopShop has a great version in white this summer and even Birkenstock has put out a couple hot summer shades in bright orange, pink, and purple this year. I also love this stunning silver metallic pair for a fancier look.
I think I’ll be grabbing a pair in the soft taupe suede style this summer. A perfect casual neutral flat to shuffle around in on lazy days! Hope these outfits and tips inspire you!
